A Centre of Harmony and Spiritual Refreshment

The Centre is situated on the Springbrook Plateau in Queensland - almost on the New South Wales border, close to the Gold Coast. Being at an altitude of about 1250m, it is usually about 5 degrees cooler than Brisbane or the Gold Coast, and can be quite cold on winter nights. It is an area of sub-tropical rainforest on the slopes of the ancient Mt Warning volcano. The caldera escarpment forms the NSW border, and the present Mt Warning peak is the old volcano core. Along the escarpment are some of the oldest trees in the world - Antarctic Beeches. There are several National Parks on the plateau with long and short walking tracks and large waterfalls.

The Theosophical Society's property extends almost to the cliff edge overlooking Numinbah Valley, and a walking track leads to the top of a 100m high waterfall that plunges into that valley. The grounds are abundant with Pademelons (very small Wallabies) other Wallabies, and many varieties of birds including brightly coloured parrots and the melodious Kurrawongs. The grounds are a registered wildlife refuge and hence pets are not allowed. Everyone who stays at the Centre comments on the aura of peace and harmony that prevails.

It is a perfect setting for spiritual retreats and meditation. You can sit beside a stream of running water or wander along a forest track listening to the birds. Gazing at the vista from the crest of the waterfall, there is an all pervading senseof Oneness with all Life.

Four brick accommodation blocks each contain six rooms. One block has a double room with en-suite, and one block has a small kitchen. There is one double and one twin room; all others are single rooms. The rooms are equipped with wash basins, and the comfortable beds have warm doonas and electric blankets. Each block has its own showers and toilets. In addition there is a twin cabin block with two bedrooms and en-suites. Up to 30 people can be accommodated. A large dining hall with fully equipped commercial kitchen provides for good food, has a wood stove fire for cold nights, and a large sheltered terrace for warm days. A large meeting hall has air-conditioning and audio-visual equipment. The meeting hall has an adjacent comprehensive reference library for the use of Theosophical Society members only. From Coolangatta, travel northwards on the Pacific Highway. Take the first Mudgereeba exit (exit 80) and then left onto the Springbrook Road at the roundabout. It is signed for Springbrook. Note that this road has many sharp bends and some historic timber bridges on sharp curves which prevent its use by caravans and large buses. It is about 21km from Mudgereeba to the centre.

From Brisbane via the Gold Coast motorway, take exit 79 ‘Robina & Mudgereeba’, cross to the right over the highway, turn left into Mudgereeba and continue through to Springbrook Road as above.

There is a fast train to Robina from Brisbane City and Brisbane airport. Hire a taxi, maxi-taxi or arrange a pick-up from Robina station. From Coolangatta airport, take a taxi or maxi-taxi or arrange a pickup. Event operators at the centre are expected to arrange transport.
